Unbroken: My Fight for Survival, Hope, and Justice for Indigenous Women and Girls by Angela Sterritt

Harmony House is named after Harmony Hansen, a patient at Central Interior Native Health Society.

She was Indigenous and a sex survival trade worker when I met her at the clinic. This brave woman who with 3 other women brought to the forefront that a judge was molesting them “a bad John” - who consequently was disbarred and jailed. She worried me and I feared for her life, which I told her. She replied “Nursie nursie, do not fear for my life. I have come down to earth as a butterfly and will die young. My life will feel like a one-day journey!” Then this small woman danced out of the clinic. Two days later she died, only one day before she was slated to go to a treatment centre.

Harmony represents the myriads of women impacted by intergenerational trauma and those that lost their lives to it… she is however also a beacon of hope that things can change.

Many women have entered Harmony House showing the courage and tenacity to overcome their trauma and work towards breaking the cycle for themselves and their children, ultimately living independent harmonious lives.

Harmony will live in the hearts of many.

Thank you, Harmony, for being in our lives as a beacon of hope.

-Maria Brouwer

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.

So, love the people who treat you right.

Forget about the one’s who don’t.

Believe everything happens for a reasons.

If you get a second change,

Grab it with both hands.

If it changes your life, let it.

Nobody said life would be easy,

They just promised it would be worth it.

Friends are like balloons,

Once you let them go you can’t get them back.

So, I’m going to tie you to my heart,

So I never lose you.

~Love Harmony
